Lyle Acheson, age 68, of Franklin, SD, died Thursday, February 8, 2018, at SD Human Services Center at Yankton due to complications from Frontotemporal Dementia.
Memorial Services will be 1:30 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, rural Colton. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Franklin Cemetery. The family will be present for visitation 5-7 PM Tuesday at Ellsworth Funeral Home, Madison.
Lyle Dean Acheson was born December 25, 1949, at Madison, SD, to Earl and Mildred (Sundberg) Acheson. Lyle graduated from SDSU and taught Ag Education for one year in Balaton, MN before returning to farm for 34 years in the Chester/Franklin area. Lyle served in the Army National Guard. Lyle married Barbara Bajema on August 28, 1976, at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, rural Colton. He was active in the community serving as the Lake County Crop Livestock Association President, Lake Co. Pork Producers, Lake Co. Farm Bureau, Lake Co. 4-H Leader, Chester School board, St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church congregational president, 4th & 5th grade Chester Boys Basketball coach, Little League baseball coach, Franklin Cemetery sexton, and on the board of directors for the Madison Farmers Elevator.
Suvivors include his wife Barbara of Sioux Falls; two sons, Steve (Natalie) Acheson of Sioux Falls, SD and John (Hannah) Acheson of Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Ezri, Zaryk, Eliana, and Clara; his mother-in-law, Henrietta Bajema of Hills, MN; four brothers-in-law, Duane (Jan) Bajema of Sioux Center, IA, Rodney (Sue) Bajema of Larchwood, IA, Jim (Marilyn) Gale of Algona, IA and Bruce Pearce of Indianapolis, IN; a sister-in-law, Linda (Brad) Bosch of Steen, MN; and nieces Julie (Jon Blevins), Lisa (Chris) Cibula, and Amy (Brandon) Muir.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Carolyn Gale, Jane Pearce and Dian Acheson; his father-in-law, Leonard Bajema; and sister-in-law Twyla Bajema.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Franklin Cemetery Association.
