Norman J. Johnson, age 72, of Madison, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at his residence in Madison.

Norman James Johnson was born June 25, 1939, at Madison to Norman B. and Charlene (Laughlin) Johnson.  He graduated from Madison High School, attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls where he played football, and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in education from General Beadle State Teachers College.  He received his Masters Degree from SDSU, Brookings and taught and coached at Madison High School for over 30 years.  Norm married Barb Halseth on September 19, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison.  They were married 53 years.  He managed the swimming pool and was on a painting crew during the summers.  Norm was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a member of many boards, served as an usher and sang in the choir.  He was served on the Madison Community Hospital Board and Lake County Red Cross Board.  He loved the Green Bay Packers, going to Twins games with his grandchildren, fishing and playing the piano.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY:  his parents and one sister, Joan Lervaag

SURVIVORS:  include his wife Barb of Madison; two daughters, Terri (Jerry) Wiblemo of Marshall, MN and Beth (Rick) Ribstein of Brookings; four grandchildren, Stephen (Brea) and Christian Wiblemo, Andi Marie and Austin Ribstein; two sisters, Jane Hines of New Prague, MN and Sally (Ron) Miller of Superior, WI; and one brother-in-law, Bob Lervaag of Anchorage, AK.

VISITATION:  There will be no visitation.
