Goldie Spawn, age 101, of Madison, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Madison.

Goldie M. Johnson was born January 26, 1911, at Mallard, IA to Olaf and Matilda (Melby) Johnson.  She graduated from Wentworth High School and married Donald Spawn on July 4, 1935, at Madison.  Goldie worked at various stores in Madison and they moved to Oxnard, CA where she worked for the US Navy during WWII.  In 1952, they moved to Sepulveda, CA where she managed the cosmetics department for Broadway Dept. Stores.  She retired in 1973 and they traveled the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Africa, and settled in Overton, NV in 1981.  They enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing cards with friends.  She returned to Madison in 2001 and Goldie entered Golden Living Center in 2005.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY:  her parents; her husband Donald in 2001; two brothers, Arthur and Clarence Johnson; and one sister, Lila Costlow.

SURVIVORS:  include one sister, Elva Witt of Madison; one sister-in-law, Jennie Johnson of Madison; five nieces and one nephew.

Dear Alva, and all who grieve Goldie's passing, I am honored to officiate at Goldie's Memorial Service. We have so much to learn from Goldie and her generation about caring, serving, and celebrating the sustaining power of Christian faith, the Word of God which strenghtened her throughout her lifetime. Goldie had a wonderful life and made friends for over a hundred years. We were lucky enough to have visited with her and Don many times and will remember them both fondly.

Goldie was a very special person. Loved her smile. Loved her sense of humor. LOVED GOLDIE!
