Aleta Mae Brown

Aleta Mae Brown, age 91, of Madison, died Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the Bethel Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Madison. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday at the Ellsworth Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7 pm.

Aleta Mae Porter was born February 5, 1926, the only child born to William Leon and Anna Mae (Miller) Porter. She graduated from Beadle High School and helped on the family farm. She married Arvid Brown on October 7, 1951 in Madison. They farmed near Ramona most of their married lives and moved into Madison in 1989.

She loved her family, friends, and visiting with neighbors and friends on her phone. Aleta was a wonderful cook and the harvest time was especially enjoyable both due to their livelihood and that she loved cooking, canning, preserving, and baked apple pies. Aleta enjoyed caring for children in her home for many years. She later cared for her husband at home when he had advanced Parkinson's disease. After moving into Bethel Lutheran Home, the residents and staff brought out many qualities in her not often seen, including her playfulness and teasing. She was blessed by having a clear and bright mind to the end.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1996; and her daughter Sandy Nordstrom on March 15, 2017.

Survivors include her children, Kevin (Jody) Brown of Ramona, and Debra (Jeff) Reuter of Madison; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
