Erhard E. Hannemann, age 96, of Madison, formerly of Ramona, died Sunday, Mar. 19, 2017, at Heritage Senior Living, Madison.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Thursday, March 23rd, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Ramona. Burial with Military Honors will be in the church cemetery. The family will be present for visitation 5:30-7:00 pm Wednesday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the Ellsworth Funeral Home. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Erhard Emil Hannemann was born December 21, 1920, on the family farm near Ramona to Theodore and Alvina (Seehafer) Hannemann. He attended Davis country school (“Davis University”)through the 8th Grade. At age 14, Erhard stayed home to pitch bundles for threshing plus he farmed with horses until 1940. He served in the US Army from 1942-45 where he was a sergeant and in the military police. He served in North Africa and Italy. Erhard was honorably discharged and returned to farming with his brother Marvin and his father.
Erhard enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, and men’s softball, and was a Minnesota Twins fan. He was a member of Oldham American Legion Post 158 and Wayne Township Board where he served as treasurer. He was also an active member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was confirmed in 1934, a member of Luther League and choir, and served as treasurer. The Hannemann farm received the SD Century Farm Award in 2012. Erhard entered Heritage Senior Living in October 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Agnes Nitteberg and Lorena Frevik.
Survivors include his brother Marvin (DeLaine) Hannemann of Ramona and nine nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Greg) Bodenhamer, Alan (Brenda) Frevik, Deanne (Dan) DeRungs, Nancy (Pat) Dunn, Denise (Scottie) Hojer, Karen (David) Duffy, Sharon (Mike) Przeslawski, Jeanine (Kevin) Schnieders and Janet Nelson.
