Gaylan E. Nelson, age 90, of Lake Poinsett, formerly of Sioux Falls, died Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Estelline Care Center. Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
Gaylan Eugene Nelson was born October 17, 1928, in Madison, SD, to Adolph and Hazel (Ambur) Nelson. He attended school in Fairview, SD. Gaylan was drafted into the United States Army in January of 1951 and served in the Korean War until December 1952. Gaylan married Barbara Story on June 13, 1954, in Sioux Falls, SD. He worked for Nabisco for over 30 years and was fortunate to retire when he was 55 years old. He enjoyed his retirement on Lake Poinsett while fishing, going for country car rides, shaking dice, and visiting with friends at coffee. He was a member of the Estelline VFW.
Survivors include daughter, Pam (Tim) Oines of Lake Poinsett; two granddaughters, Katie (Patrick) Lamb of Fargo and Kasey (Jared Ludwig) Oines of Duluth, MN and two great grandchildren Lillian and William Lamb of Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
