Carole Hallenbeck Obituary

Carole A. Hallenbeck, age 89, of Casa Grande, AZ, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Funeral Services will be 11 am, Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Madison United Methodist Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday at Ellsworth Funeral Home.

Carole Alleyne Ewing was born in Keokuk, Iowa to John and Emma (Grauf) Ewing and grew up on a farm in Carthage, Illinois.  She married Edward Hallenbeck in 1976.

Carole worked for the U. S. Dept. of Interior and the Dept. of Energy as an accountant.  She retired after 30 years of service.  Carole served as the chairwoman of Arizona’s Spouse’s Program Committee of the Colorado River Water Users Association for more than 20 years as well as working with other social organizations.  She loved music and played piano from childhood.  She was active in many different Methodist churches throughout her life, playing the organ or singing in the choir.  She was also a member of many different chapters of Sweet Adeline’s and performed at many venues.  She even took up tap dancing for a while and was good at it!  She was a life member of the NRA and traveled with her husband in their motor home to attend NRA conventions and visit their children. They were snowbirds for several years with residences in South Dakota and Arizona, but finally settled in Casa Grande, AZ.

Carole fought a long, difficult battle with Parkinson’s Disease but always faced life with a smile and kind words to everyone she met.  Besides her family, she also had several neighbors whom she loved and her family thanks them for their dedicated friendship to her through the good times and the difficulties. To know Carole was to love her. She will be dearly missed but we know she is in the loving arms of our Father in Heaven.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Hallenbeck of Casa Grande, AZ; her children, Terri (Chet) Natale of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Stewart of Charlotte, NC, Larry (Yvonne) Symmonds of Tolleson, AZ, Paul (Kathy) Symmonds of Cloverdale, CA, two step-daughters, Marsha (Jon) Esmeier of Surprise, AZ and Carla Young of Sun City, AZ; 10 grandchildren, Ron (Jordann) Rader, Jesse (Katia) Natale, Kerry (Jim) Nygaard, Jesse Teague, Crystal (James) Tyson, Sarah Symmonds, Chelsea Symmonds, Zach (Ashley) Symmonds; Nicole Murray and Lisa Austin; two step-grandchildren, Alyssa (Cody) McConkey and Conner Esmeier; fourteen great grandchildren, Sophia, Emma, Michelle, Nathan, Alayna, Kevin, Scottie, Wyatt, Zane, Tatum, Daniel, Natalie, David, and Mackenzie.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marilyn Courtney; one son, Kevin Symmonds; one grandson, Richard Symmonds; and one great granddaughter, Ashley Symmonds.
