Denny DeWaard, 66, went to his forever home on January 4, 2019. Memorial services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Living Hope Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Dennis Wayne DeWaard was born April 6, 1952 to Jacob and Lorraine (Danger) DeWaard. He grew up on the family farm in Woden, IA, attended Kanawha Christian Grade School, Woden-Crystal Lake High School and North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City for one year. After that he went to Brown College, now Sanford-Brown College in Minneapolis for broadcasting. After receiving his broadcasting degree he worked at radio stations in Mankato, MN, Mason City & Sioux City, IA.
In 1978 Denny moved to Sioux Center IA and became known as the voice of Dordt College, where he managed KDCR and was a professor of marketing and advertising. While working at Dordt, Denny met his wife Denise (Pluim) of 39 years. He also received his BA at Dordt and later his Masters of Communications at the University of South Dakota.
Denny retired from Dordt after 37 years of service in 2015. He and Denise then moved to Madison SD to enjoy lake side living. Denny went to Living Hope Wesleyan Church in Madison, SD and was a member of many churches where he lived. He served on church councils, taught and participated in Bible studies and volunteered in church activities. For two summers he and Denise were radio missionaries in Equador and Dominica. While at KDCR Denny produced two daily radio shows, Money Concepts with Tom DeJong and a Christian counseling show called Finding Your Way with Dale Ellens. For more than 20 years he was on the board for Bethesda Midwest Christian Counseling out of Sioux Falls, SD.
Denny is survived by his wife Denise of Madison and is the father of 3 children and grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Nicole(Joe) Savage, Andrew, Gabriel and Jacob, all of Huntington, WV; Cassie (Gary) Graff Chloe, Meika, Jakob, Quinn and Zane and Aaron DeWaard, Ella and Sawyer, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and one brother Duane (Julie) DeWaard of Wesley, IA
Denny was preceded in death by his father (2008), Mother (2018), brother Daniel (2017) father-in-law, Kenneth Pluim (2001) and nephew, Lucas DeWaard (2011).
The family asks that memorials be given to Bethesda Christian Counseling and Madison Regional Health Hospice.
