Donna Lidel, age 86, of Madison, died Friday, December 11, 2020, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Private funeral services for family only will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Madison. The service will be live streamed on the Our Savior Lutheran Church Facebook page. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery at Wentworth.
Donna Mae Diepholz was born October 24, 1934, near Wentworth to Chris and Alma (Kotte) Diepholz. She was raised in the Wentworth area, graduating from Chester High School in 1953. Donna married Merlin Lidel on June 3, 1955, in Brookings. They lived in Chester and by Brant Lake.
Donna worked for 23 years for USPS before retiring in October of 1992 as the postmaster in Chester. In her retirement she enjoyed working at the Disney Store in Sioux Falls until 2001.
Donna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester and was involved with LWML and VBS. She is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Madison and the Chester American Legion Auxiliary. Donna was involved with 4-H as a youth and adult leader. She enjoyed judging at several county achievement days.
Donna also enjoyed shopping, canning, and sewing. She taught her grandkids how to can things. She liked to show her canning ability in the open class at the SD State Fair and the Sioux Empire Fair.
Survivors include her children, Craig (Pam) of Chester, Carla (Pat) Scott of Chester; grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) of Sioux Falls, Kyle of Chester, Todd (Tarah) of Chester, Anna Scott of Sioux City, IA, Aric Scott of Overland Park, KS,; great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Elizabeth, and Asher of Sioux Falls, Carsen and Khyler of Chester; and one brother, Eugene of National City, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2003; infant sister Joan; and one brother Donald Rae
