Duane S. Hyland

Duane (Dewey) Stanley Hyland, age 69, passed away February 18, 2020 at Madison Regional Hospital surrounded by his loved ones after a brave, 9 year battle with multiple myeloma. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Grace Lutheran Church at Nunda. Burial will follow at Prairie Queen Cemetery rural Nunda. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, at the Ellsworth Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7.

Duane was born to Stanley Duane and Eunice (Alverson) Hyland on October 17, 1950 in Madison, South Dakota.  As a child, he attended the Hyland Country School near Nunda. In second grade, he went to Rutland School, in Rutland, South Dakota, graduating in 1969. Following high school graduation,  he worked part time for Bob Klassy Electric until attending Denver Automotive Institute in Denver, Colorado for auto body. From there, he came back to Nunda, South Dakota to work on the family farm.

Duane married Vicki Boer on February 10, 1971 at Scottsdale Arizona. From this union, two sons were born, Robbi (Nannette) and Ryan (Ann). Vicki passed away at Madison Community Hospital on September 20, 1978.

Duane took over the family farm, after the passing of his dad.  He started building his family's legacy, farming crop ground, raising cattle, and farrowing pigs.

Duane met and married Barb Hansen on July 14, 1979 at Madison, South Dakota. From this union two sons were born, Russell (Leslie) and Riley (Lindsey).  Barb and Duane were married for over 40 years.

Duane and Barb enjoyed antiquing and traveling the countryside. Duane truly enjoyed buying antique tractors; anything from toy tractors to tractors that he grew up driving as a child and young man.  As time went on, Duane and Barb started a collection of cars and tractors. There is a story behind each of those cars and tractors.

Duane is survived by his wife Barb; four sons, Rob (Nannette (Smith), their children Kira and Kaci; Ryan (Ann (Garry), their children, Caileb, River, and Peyton; Russell (Leslie (Corbin), their children, Avery, Bryer, and Corbyn; Riley (Lindsey(Lewis) their child, Maggie Jo; two sisters, Bonnie (Roger) Olson and Connie (Mike) Kearin.  Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Vicki.
