Fredrick Milton Buehler, age 85, of Stevens Point, WI, died on Friday, November 19, 2021. He passed away at Portage County Health Care Center in Stevens Point, WI. Memorial graveside services will be held in the spring of 2022 at Graceland Cemetery in Madison.
Fredrick Buehler was born on July 2, 1936, at Madison, to Milton and Clara (Klostreich) Buehler. He graduated from Madison Central High School and attended General Beadle College, now DSU. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He received a Master of Library Science degree and a Master of History degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, WI. He taught history in Idaho and was a school librarian in Silver Bay, MN. He transferred his love of books and history to become the Assistant Reference Librarian at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, WI for 30 years, 1968-1998.
Fredrick was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Intercession in Stevens Point. He enjoyed the members of the church and participating in the church services. He kept active with many hobbies. He ran the Boston Marathon in 1979, plus many marathons throughout WI and MN. He often rode his bike to work and to Iola, WI for rhubarb pie. He enjoyed kayaking on the Wisconsin River, sailing, scuba diving, and snowshoeing. His love of history led him to build a scale-model replica of the Chautauqua Park, including the hotel and pavilion at Lake Madison. The model is on display at the Smith- Zimmermann Museum at DSU in Madison. He had written articles of Lake County history. He also constructed replicas of the Titanic and its sister ship the Olympic, which he donated to the library of the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. He enjoyed model railroading with the areas Model Railroading Club.
He is survived by one sister, Nancy (Rodger) Nelson of Wilmington, DE; one niece, Michele Buehler O’Connor of Coralville, IA; three nephews, Mark (Laurie) Buehler of Sioux Falls, Michael (Pattie) Buehler of Sioux Falls; and Patrick (Leigh) Nelson of Seattle, WA; and great-uncle to nine nephews & nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Buehler; and one nephew, Mitchell Buehler.
