Gloria L. Pitts, age 79, of Madison, died Friday, September 7, 2018, at her residence under hospice care after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial at Ramona City Cemetery. Visitation will begin noon Monday with the family present 5-7 PM Monday evening at Ellsworth Funeral Home.
Gloria Leigh Haroldson was born May 12, 1939, at Madison to Henry and Ada (Hilde) Haroldson. She graduated from Ramona High School. Gloria married Douglas F. Smith at Pipestone, MN, on July 7, 1956. He was killed in a car accident on March 24, 1963. She married David W. Pitts on May 29, 1966 at Madison. They lived on the family farm 10 miles northwest of Madison where she delivered meals to the field for many years.
Gloria was a clerk at the Ramona Post Office from 1966 -- 1982 when she became Postmaster. She retired in 1992. Gloria was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison. She was an avid bridge player. Above all, her life revolved around her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband David of Madison; three sons, Brian Smith, Gary (Shelly) Pitts, and Gregg (Nikki) Pitts all of Ramona; four daughters, Becky Smith of Madison, Bonnie Gluhm of Sioux Falls, Barbara Smith (Gary Baumgartner) of Sioux Falls, and GayLynn Hagemann of Ramona; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother Buster (Pailin) Haroldson of Ramona; three sisters-in-law, Bev Warns of Madison, Rose (Jerry) Pederson of Canon Falls, MN, and Beverly Cooper of Canistota, SD; one brother-in-law Dennis (Bev) Smith of Blackhawk, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Douglas; and one sister, Marjorie DeCurtins; and one brother-in-law Ron Warns.
