Leonard “Bud” Janke, 93, of Madison, SD, went to his heavenly home on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Madison Regional Hospital.
Leonard H. Janke was born February 17, 1930, near Madison, to Michael and Anna (Graese) Janke. He attended Junius School and graduated 8th Grade. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Madison, where he served as an usher, sang in the choir and a men’s quartet. He was married to Doris Hanneman on April 20, 1951. Theirs was the first wedding held in the new church building. They celebrated their 72rd anniversary. Bud served in the National Guard. The couple farmed until he retired in 1992.
He received Lake County Soil Conservation awards and served on the Junius and Madison School Boards. They went to Arizona with their camper for many winters.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Madison; four sons – Roger (Peg) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Ronald (Roberta) of Madison, Fred (Linda) of Madison, and David (Audra) of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth (Helen) of Beaver, Penn. and one sister Ella Koepp of Waukesha, Wis. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Doreen Pospisil, in 2010; his parents; brother, Harold; five sisters – Ruth Plack, Olga Abraham, Marie DeBoer, Florence Maltheson and Lorraine Mullvihill. He loved God, his family, relatives, farming, camping, fishing, and following family sports events.
