Maxine L. Bloker

Maxine L. Bloker, age 97, of Madison, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Home, Madison.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM, Monday, October 1, 2018, at the Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Wentworth. The family will be present for visitation from 2-4 PM on Sunday at the Ellsworth Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4.

Maxine Lorraine Shafer was born April 28, 1921, at Valley Springs, SD to Otto and Enid (Ames) Shafer.  She attended school at Wentworth. Maxine married Glenn Bloker on September 27, 1938, at Sioux Falls, SD.  They farmed near Wentworth until Glenn’s death in 1980. Maxine kept busy with various jobs throughout her life. She worked at the Rutland School, the Elk’s club, Nunda Café, Bob’s Beef & Spirits in Wentworth, and also owned a drapery business where she served the Madison area for many years.

She was a member of of the First Reformed Church in Volga and the Red Hats. Maxine was well known for decorating cakes for various events. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. Family reunions were the highlight of each year. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Survivors include two sons, Harold (Deb) Bloker of Sioux Falls and Gene (Nancy) Bloker of Wentworth; three daughters, Shirley (Vernon) Lathrop of Brookings, Deanna (William) Santema of Volga and Carole Bergjord of Hartford, SD; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Hare of Madison; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bloker of Madison.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, and one great-granddaughter.
