Randy Goff Obituary

Randy Goff, age 57, of Madison, died Friday, February 16, 2018, at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be 4-6 PM Wednesday with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM at Ellsworth Funeral Home, Madison.  Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 23, 2018, at Kinkade Funeral Home, Sturgis, SD.  Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, Newell, SD.

Randy Goff was born November 19, 1960, to Frank Goff and Ida (Bryant-Goff) Tryon in Rapid City, SD. He was the 2nd of 8 children. He always enjoyed the country life. He was a proud 4-H'er and member of the Newell FFA. He enjoyed showing cattle, dairy, and horses. He was an avid agronomist. He loved haying at the Bryant place. He worked for many friends and neighbors haying and on their ranches during high school. He always worried about his mom and would help her pay bills in HS during the tough times. He graduated from Newell HS in 1979 then continued his education at SDSU in Brookings, SD. He graduated with a Bachelor of Agriculture Science and he was a registered Seed Technologist.

He proudly began his adventure of a Seed Technologist in California for 3 years but his heart was still in South Dakota with his family. He then went to work at Huron then to Madison. After a few years, he bought a small acreage and house where he started his horse herd, also known as Randy’s addictions. He could rattle off pedigrees of Quarter horses like most people would say their ABC’s. He didn’t have a lot of time to work on his place because even though he was on salary, he worked countless extra hours on weekends and nights to finish his projects. He had a passion for his job. He would rattle off grass names and talk of seeds in his sleep. He missed many family functions out west because he had a germination test or something going on at work that he knew he had to get done. For 27 years, he was a dedicated Madison, SD, Seed Technologist that ran on plant time. He was as giving as his mother, Ida. If someone needed it more than him, he would give what he had. If they needed a place to stay, his door was always open. He always enjoyed going to darts with Diana Finch, family, and his friends. He tried to get out to the state dart tournaments every year. He loved to visit and tell stories.
