Shirley M. Meyer, age 89, of Ramona, died Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Madison Care and Rehab Center in Madison.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 8, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church in Madison. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Burial will be 2:30 PM MST, Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
Shirley Meyer was born March 14, 1928, at Riverton, NE, to Paul and Mathilda (Henkel) Meyer. She attended school in Campbell, NE and graduated from Campbell High School in 1946. Shirley married Glen Meyer on June 10, 1951, in Campbell, NE. The couple farmed near Salem until 1962 when they moved to a farm near Madison, and later near Ramona. In 1976, they moved into Ramona and Shirley was a housewife until the late 1980’s. Following Glen’s passing, Shirley started working at the Ramona school where she was employed for over 20 years.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Madison, the Ramona Legion Auxiliary, and the Sprouts Garden Club. Shirley was also active in St. John Ladies Aide. She loved gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Carla) Meyer of Sioux Falls, Kevin (Cheryl) Meyer of Brookings, Randy (Kyla) Meyer of Brandon, Susan Hoxsie of Sioux Falls, Glenda Meyer of Brookings, and Kathleen (Larry) Baty of Trent, SD; one brother, Deyman (Betty) Meyer of Campbell, NE; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Glen in 1991; and a son-in-law Charlie Hoxsie.
