Wesley D. Tommeraasen, age 95, of Rapid City, formerly of Madison, died Monday, October 22, 2018, at the Rapid City Regional Health Home & Hospice. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Ellsworth Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday.
He was born June 20, 1923 to Sandy and Ellen (Rensvold) Tommeraasen in Madison, SD, where he was raised. He thoroughly enjoyed his long career with the United States Postal Service, working primarily in St. Paul, MN. During World War II he served in England and France as an infantry man in the United States Army.
He traveled in Europe and extensively in the southeast region of the nation, often in Florida. He enjoyed movies, fishing, pheasant hunting, reading books and newspapers, and following the sports teams of Madison High School. He was most recently concerned about the red tide off the coasts of Florida and its impact on the residents’ health and the economy of the state.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary E. Tommeraasen Severson and brother-in-law Harlan Severson.
He is survived by his nephew Joel “Jody” (Trudy) Severson of Rapid City, SD; nephew Jeffrey (Sally) Severson of Silver Spring, MD; niece Lynn (Gary) Warnke of Bismarck, ND; nephew Scott (Charma Le) of Silver Spring, MD; and great nephew Ted (Caitlin) Severson of Washington, D.C.
The family thanks the staff at The Victorian and RC Regional Hospice House, as well as Dr. Kevin Weiland and Dr. Scott Eccarius and their staffs for excellent care in Rapid City.
