Mary “Corky” Hagen, age 82, of Madison, SD, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Madison Regional Health System.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Madison. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday with the family present from 5-7 pm at the Ellsworth Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.
Mary Carlene Adaire Alden was born October 6, 1934, in Dupree, SD to Jack and Gertrude (Walker) Alden. She attended Faith High School and graduated in 1952. She married Obert Hagen on November 7, 1953 and he died in 1962. Mary married Selmer Hagen on June 13, 1964, at Lemmon, SD. During high school, Mary worked at the soda counter at Thompson Drugstore in Faith. She then wrote and voiced radio commercials at Lemmon. Mary and Selmer owned and operated the Ben Franklin store in Madison for over 20 years where she taught craft and quilting classes. They retired in 1996.
Mary was a member of Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church of Madison. She held many offices in the Jaycettes including local president. She was active in helping to restore Chapel Car Emmanuel at Prairie Village.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her first husband, one sister Jackalea Inghram, and one grandson Christian Hetland.
Survivors include her husband Selmer of Madison; her children, Steve Hagen of Madison, Lauri (Jeff) Koller of Sioux Falls, Dana (Nancy) Hagen of Sioux Falls, and Donna (Randy) Hetland of Harrisburg; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Nelson of Port Orchard, WA and Arla (Dale) Roth of Bentley, ND; and one sister-in-law, Carol (Harvey) Hochhalter of Valley City, ND.
